the inner juggernaut
Jason didn’t know what to do, he was just so lost. He had been juggling the responsibilities of his family and his job for a long time.
When he was a student in Law school, he could have never imagined that one day he would become a judge. It seemed impossible at that time but his major in Criminal Law had really paved the way.
Apparently, he had it all. A gorgeous wife, a gigantic house and a lovely child Jason usually called “my wonderful genius”. However, he wasn’t happy at all.
Yeah, his job as a judge had its perks. He had been able to send really bad people to jail, he was friends with the mayor and his wage was so good he had even bought a yacht. Yet he didn’t feel satisfied. New cases brought before his court made him yawn instead of bringing joy and excitement. He clearly yearned for something else.
Jason thought that maybe he could go on a journey to some tropical paradise. He could just put on his yellow swimwear and scuba-diving gear to enjoy the sea and perhaps see some colorful jellyfish. Or he could join a hippie commune and live on what earth yielded. But he knew he was kidding himself, it all sounded like a joke.
He dreamt of his youth, when he was so young he didn’t care at all. He would just put on his leather jacket and ride his fast bike for fun. His life now was so overly complicated and utterly meaningless. His concerns were drinking enough detox juice, eating his probiotic yoghurt and not skipping any yoga class.
His friend John had told him to hold on and wait for better times but all Jason could think about was playing “Yesterday” by The Beatles and forget about everything.
Jason sat on the edge of his gigantic bed, feeling the weight of his judge’s robes pressing down on him. The joy he once felt in his job was gone, replaced by a grey haze of monotony. He remembered the adrenaline of his first few cases, the joy of achieving justice. Now, even the juiciest cases failed to ignite his passion.
Maybe he needed to find a new gig. His wife, Jenny, had suggested he teach at the university, sharing his knowledge with eager young minds. The idea had some appeal; he could imagine engaging in lively debates with students, their youthful energy reigniting his own.
Or perhaps he could write a book, using his vast legal experience to weave together engaging stories of justice and intrigue. He could already see the cover: “Judge Jason’s Journeys in Justice”. But every time he thought about starting, a giant wave of doubt washed over him.
As he gazed out the window at the sun setting over the horizon, Jason sighed deeply. His life had become a jumble of judicial duties and societal expectations. He yearned for the joy and simplicity of his younger days, the thrill of a spontaneous joyride on his bike, the excitement of a new journey every weekend.
Jason knew he couldn’t just abandon his responsibilities, but maybe, just maybe, he could find a way to bring a bit of that youthful vigor back into his life. It was time to start searching for that spark again, to bridge the gap between his gigantic responsibilities and his yearning for joy.
